Never Ghost a Lead Again: AI-Drafted Follow-Up Emails That Actually Get Replies

The fortune is in the follow-up — everyone knows that. And yet, following up consistently is one of the first things to fall through the cracks when you're busy. AI won't close your deals, but it will make sure you never lose one simply because you ran out of time to write an email.

The One-Off Follow-Up

Before we get into sequences, let's start with the most common scenario: you met someone, showed them a house, or got a referral — and now you need to send a follow-up without it sounding generic.

Step 1: Give AI the Context

The more specific you are, the better the email will be. Don't just ask for "a follow-up email." Tell AI what happened.

"Write a follow-up email to a couple I showed three homes to yesterday afternoon. They seemed most interested in the colonial on Maple Street but had concerns about the small backyard. Tone should be warm and helpful, not pushy. Offer to find more options that might be a better fit and invite them to share any other feedback."

That one prompt will give you a draft that actually sounds like it came from someone who was paying attention — because you told AI what to pay attention to.

Step 2: Adjust the Tone

If the output feels too formal or too casual, just say so:

"Make it a little more conversational — like I'm texting a friend, not writing a business letter."

Or:

"This client is more reserved and corporate. Make it sound more professional."

AI will rewrite it in seconds. Keep going until it sounds like you.

Building a Nurture Sequence

A nurture sequence is a series of emails sent over weeks or months to stay in touch with leads who aren't ready to buy or sell yet. Writing these from scratch is time-consuming — but AI can generate an entire sequence at once.

Step 3: Request the Full Sequence

You are a real estate agent assistant. Write a 5-email nurture sequence for a buyer lead
who is 3–6 months away from being ready to purchase. Emails should be sent roughly every
2–3 weeks. Each email should provide value (market insight, tips, local info) without being
salesy. Keep each email under 150 words. Include a subject line for each. The agent's name
is [your name] and they work in [your city/market].

You'll get five ready-to-use drafts with subject lines. Load them into your CRM or email tool and schedule them out. Done.

Sequences for Different Situations

You're not always nurturing the same type of lead. Here are a few sequence types worth having in your library:

  • Seller leads who aren't ready to list yet — focus on market updates, home value trends, and what's selling nearby
  • Past clients for annual check-ins and referral asks
  • Open house visitors who expressed interest but went quiet
  • Expired listing owners who may be ready to try again
  • Renters who might be thinking about buying in the next year or two

For each one, run a variation of the sequence prompt above and swap out the audience details. You'll have a full library built out in an afternoon.

A Few Details That Make Emails Land

AI drafts are a great starting point, but a few personal touches make them feel real:

  • Add a specific local reference — mention a neighborhood, a school, a restaurant, something that signals you actually know the area
  • Use their name in the opener, not just "Hi there"
  • Include one genuine observation from your last interaction if you have one — AI can help you work this in if you provide it

Instead of: "It was great meeting you at the open house."
Try: "It was great chatting with you at the Elmwood open house — I hope your kids enjoyed the cookies."

The difference is small, but it's the difference between an email that gets opened and one that gets deleted.

Keep a Prompt Library

Once you find prompts that work, save them. Create a simple doc or note with your best follow-up prompts organized by scenario. Over time, this becomes one of the most valuable tools in your business — a system that generates professional, personalized communication on demand.

Consistent follow-up is what separates agents who close deals from agents who lose them to someone who just stayed in touch a little longer. AI makes that consistency effortless.
